It is the mission of Ballast Point Financial Planning to empower 1 million young professionals to live vibrant lives by aligning their personal core values with their finances.
We will partner with you to work through the financial stressors in your life. We believe that education is empowering, so we will be your partner to help you understand the financial challenges you face in your life so we can make an informed decision together. We will help you gain control over your finances, feel like you have some financial breathing room, and ensure you are making smart decisions with your money.
Methodology: The number of lives impacted in this chart includes clients, meetings with prospects, attendees at seminars, blog readers, and podcast audiences. The major spikes are from when I was interviewed on the XYPN Radio Podcast about my first year in business and when I was a guest contributor to Michael Kitces' Nerd's Eye View blog also about my first year in business.
Shawn's Professional Story
After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Economics, Shawn was unprepared to manage his own personal financial life. Credit Scores, Emergency Funds, and 401(k)s were all foreign concepts and he felt overwhelmed. When he started learning how to best manage his own personal finances, he was hooked. He knew he found his professional calling and personal mission. At the time, he was working for one of the largest institutional investment firms in the world and took it upon himself to prepare for a successful career transition into personal finance.
He earned the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner™) designation in 2009 to learn the fundamental skills of comprehensive financial planning, covering the topics of Insurance, Investments, Estate Planning, Education Planning, Cash Flow Management, and Retirement Planning. Shawn then worked for a variety of private wealth management firms to cut his teeth in client service and the soft skills of financial planning. Next, he earned his MBA from the University of Michigan - Ross School of Business (graduating with High Distinction) to learn how to run a successful business and scale financial planning.
He launched Ballast Point Financial Planning to be your accountability partner in achieving your financial goals and dreams.
Shawn's Personal Story
Shawn met his wife Jen when they were both undergraduates at UCLA - Go Bruins! They are both California natives and enjoy very active lifestyles. They live in the Bay Area and on the weekends you may find them running a local road race, camping in Napa Valley out of our Subaru, fishing, spending time with our eight nieces and nephews, skiing/snowboarding...pretty much anything outdoors. They also enjoy photography, travel, and ample amounts of sunscreen.
They love road trips and have driven across the country five times together. Shawn has visited 48 out of the 50 states, but still need to hit Alabama and South Carolina.
Shawn is an avid runner and in 2017 he set a personal best time of 2:50:34 (6:30 min/mile) at the California International Marathon. To date he has completed 11 marathons including finishing 19th overall at the 6th hardest marathon in the world as rated by the Weather Channel.
Shawn loves spending time his wife Jen, family, and friends, as evidenced by these pics!
